News: Itchen Waterside teams up with Sno!Zone for major Southampton bid
Turnstone Group in it's venture with Haxted Estates called Itchen Waterside, has teamed up with Sno!Zone, part of the X-Leisure Group and the UK's largest indoor ski operator, to make a joint bid for the Town Depot site in Southampton, with plans to turn the former industrial area into a major leisure destination with a real-snow ski dome as well as shops, restaurants and apartments. Turnstone Group is a 70% shareholder in Itchen Waterside.
Having proceeded through the initial OJEU bid process, Itchen Waterside and Sno!Zone have now been shortlisted and invited by Southampton City Council to provide more detailed information for their bid with a view to notification later in the year.
Justin Whitfield of Turnstone said "We know that there is a market for indoor skiing on the south coast and believe Southampton would make an ideal location. With the nearest snow dome almost 100 miles away in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, it would be the first on the south coast and a major leisure attraction, drawing people in from all over the south."
