Southampton’s Old Steam Mill Set For Restoration

News: Turnstone Group permission for American Wharf

Turnstone Group have gained permission for one of Southampton's most historic buildings to be restored and converted into offices and flats following a full public inquiry and a decision by the Secretary of State. The Grade II* American Wharf is an 'at risk' listed building but has now achieved full planning permission and listed building consent for restoration and conversion into 23 residential apartments and 6 office units.

Justin Whitfield, MD of Turnstone Group, said: "This was a wholly collaborative process and we would like to acknowledge the clear advice and professional guidance provided to us by Southampton City Council and English Heritage. We are delighted to have been involved in a venture which stemmed from our common need to secure the future of American Wharf and which we have found to be wholly constructive in it's process."

The scheme was recommended for approval by SCC planning but, due to an Environment Agency objection to the building being sited in a flood risk area, the proposal was called in for decision by the Secretary of State.
